IMPORTANT: It would be
helpful if you read about "Minimum Training" programs on the "Minimum
Training" page for Reserves/Auxiliaries with "arrest
power" before implementation of this syllabus for
Reserves/Auxiliaries without "arrest powers." NOTE: All eTraining syllabuses provided on this
site are provided solely for the purpose of
providing guidelines/information on the subjects
covered.
NRLO has been asked about
different training syllabuses. Our "Minimum Training" syllabus
is an excellent basic training schedule for those with "arrest
power." For Reserve/Auxiliary Officers who will not have
arrest powers and who are assigned basic duties around the
Department (such as courts, inmate transport, parades, crowd
control, etc.), here is a very basic program that might be used as a
starter program until the Department makes the final decision
on just what their Reserve/Auxiliary Officers will be doing for
their communities. This course is just touching the tip, as it
is a very basic program that might get a small Department started,
and then they can work on up from there. The main
thing is to get started. Call on NRLO for advice and
for suggestions.

BASIC DETENTION TRAINING FOR
RESERVE/AUXILIARY OFFICERS
40 HOURS
If your Department has a
confinement facility, here is a 40-hour training program that fits
right in with your Reserve/Auxiliary program. First Aid and CPR are taught in Basic Training
Classes and can be reviewed as an extra if desired. Depending
on the facility and on the job assignments of the Reserve/Auxiliary
Officer, training can be changed to fit the job description
(examples: fingerprinting, booking, etc.). Reserve Officers
should be allowed to attend all training classes for full-time
Detention Officers.
