This Award
is a Presidential honor that recognizes the valuable contributions
of volunteers nationwide who have and are answering President George W. Bush's call to serve others
through current volunteer activities or through lifetime
service. This Award recognizes the best in the
American spirit and encourages all Americans to improve their
communities through volunteer service and civic
participation.
"The
President's Volunteer Service Award" recognizes
Americans of all ages who have made a substancial commitment to
volunteer service. The Award - issued by the President's Council on Service and Civic
Participation on behalf of the President of the
United States - honors individuals, families, and groups that have
demonstrated outstanding volunteer service over a 12-month period or
throughout their lifetime. Since September, 2003, more than
6,000 organizations have signed on as "Certifying Organizations" and
have honored over 150,000 volunteers with the Award.
As a Certifying
Organization, NRLO has teamed with the White House and will
identify eligible recipient Reserve/Auxiliary Law Enforcement
groups (two or more Reserve/Auxiliary Officers) and
individuals, verify their service hours, and distribute the Award to
outstanding Reserve/Auxiliary Law Enforcement
Volunteers. (Also see the information
below concerning "individual" "President's
Call to Service Award" for lifetime
service.)
If your Reserve/Auxiliary
Reserve group or individual meets the "eligibility
requirements" outlined below and you are a NRLO Member,
you are invited to apply for this Award by contacting NRLO by
e-mail and typing "The President's Volunteer
Service Award" in the subject line.
If you
wish for each member of the group to receive pins and letters,
Contact NRLO; and type "Inquiry on
Group's Individual Presentations" in the subject line, identify
yourself, and give the number of Officers in your
group.
Given your ongoing
Reserve/Auxiliary Law Enforcement service activities, many of you
may have already met the requirements to receive the Award. To
qualify, volunteers simply submit a record of service
hours to NRLO, and the service will be verified and the Award will
be distributed.
Also, you might consider becoming a "Certifying
Organization" on your own. (Click here to
