Elk River Police Reserve
Police Coordinator, Officer Mike Suchy, further explained in
his note to NRLO about how he executed the "surprise" of
the awards ceremony after the December, 2005 holiday
dinner: "I began with some other individual
acknowledgments; then I went back in history to the members of 2004
Reserve Unit and what they have accomplished. I mentioned the
NRLO Association and links to "volunteer service awards."
"I then began with having the
leader of the unit, Captain Kelly Hinrichs, come stand by me at
which point I read the award letter of thanks from President G. W.
Bush. He was speechless, and so were the others. I had
to explain to our new members that this award was brand new; and as
long as it's available, I would put our Unit as well as future
Reserve Officers in for such an award. This award really
helped me say "thanks" to these awesome individuals who volunteer
their time to help our community."
