Hurricane Katrina - St.
Clair's Police Chaplain Reverend Glenn Stone Diverted to
Houston
..."Chaplain Stone's services to the community as a Chaplain
has been a great aid to Chief Barnum for counseling the Department's
Officers. Counseling is a specialized career that has become
paramount with today's Police Service." ...... "Keep in mind that
the Officers he is counseling have been working around the clock and
are burned out or near."
Chief of Police
Donald Barnum has provided a message pertaining to the St.
Clair Police Department's Police Chaplain Reverend Glenn
Stone. Chaplain Stone is the local Pastor of the St. Paul's
Episcopal Church. He joined the S.C.P.D. two years ago.
For a bio on Chaplain Stone, contact Chief Barnum.

The following text
is provided by Chief Barnum detailing the preparation that is
required to support our Chaplain for the Katrina
assignment.
FROM CHIEF
BARNUM FYI
Re: Police Chaplain Glenn Stone who was diverted to
Houston to counsel Houston Officers dealing with New Orleans
evacuees.
"Chaplain Stone was vacationing in the western
states. He was contacted by the ICPC (International Conference
of the Police Chaplains), and he received his OK's from the Bishop
and from me, Chief Barnum. He volunteered his services and was
diverted to Houston where he served. Keep in mind that
the Officers he counseled were working around the clock and
were burned out or near." (Web Site of the ICPC: www.icpc4cops.org).
He drove his trailer from kansas and arrived in
Houston on the afternoon of 9/7/2005. I mailed a box
containing his uniform, polo shirts, ID, rubber gloves, hand
sanitizer (8 bottles), masks, 8 hardcover Common Prayer books,
boots, two spare cell phone batteries, notebooks, pens, socks, gold
sticky badges for the kids, etc. I Fed Ex'ed it overnight, and
he received it the following day.
I told the Council that he was there and how it
came to be mentioning that he was the only representative from the
county/state from the chaplaincy and that we were proud to have him
there representing the City of St. Clair.
"Chaplain Stone is
honored to be servicing in this crucial supporting role of
counseling First Responders, Police, Fire , and the
Public."
Chaplain Stone reported that they already had a
murder, a child sexually assaulted in the bathroom, and a man in the
women's shower - just for starters.
There were around 60,000 in the Astrodome
and expected upwards of around 250,000 eventually. When he
sends along pictures, I will forward them on to you.
Donald R. Barnum, Chief of Police,
City of St. Clair, MI

Lee A. Flemming Promoted to
Captain of the St. Clair Police
Reserve
Captain Flemming also receives NRLO's "2008
Merit Service Award"
Written by Commander Ronald F.
Boden
March 27, 2008: It
was a great and festive evening with the promotion of Reserve
Lieutenant Lee A. Flemming to "Reserve Captain" of the St.
Clair Police Reserve Unit. He was also titled "Deputy
Commander." His first awareness of the advancement was when he
stood at the front of the hall waiting to promote a fellow Officer
(or so he thought). When Sergeant Westrick read the NRLO
presentation letter and certificate for the "2008 Merit Service
Award" with his name and his new title, he was still in
disbelief. After Sergeant Westrick and I finished putting on
his Captain's Bars, he knew it was truely his promotion
celebration.

performed his duties and served his community exceptionally
well in a professional manner. His leadership and Supervisory
qualities inspire his fellow Reserves. Congratulations,
Captain Flemming.

Clair's "Special Police." The six are

A. Flemming; Sergeant Kenneth Brinker (Platoon 1); Corporal D.
Kent Bacon; Patrol Officer James (Red) Fraser; and Patrol Officer Richard Schwartz. Commander Boden and Captain Flemming will remain

Commander Boden said in
a recent interview, "It has given us great pleasure and
satisfaction to have served our community in an organization steeped
in a heritage of service to the citizens of St. Clair since it's
inception in 1946, 62 years ago. The organization was
initially referred to as the 'St. Clair
Special Police,' It has gone through many changes as Law
Enforcement needs dictated. More recently our name was changed
to the 'St. Clair Police Reserve.' We implemented many
new policies to align with the Police Department's regulations and
formulated an aggressive training plan. Our mission has always
been to support the Department. As Commander of the Police
Reserve, I express sincere gratitude to the Officers for their
giving of 'Premium Family Time' to support our community in a
society that places many demands on scarce little time. We all
would like to express a heart-felt thank you for the opportunity to
serve our community."
Congratulations, retirees. You are
indeed great examples of "Ultimate Volunteers."
NRLO and its Members salute you on a job well
done.

Muscular
Dystrophy Association "Lock-Up" February 7,
2007
Below is the press release for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association "Lock-Up" on February 7, 2007, from District
Director Michelle Hall. Thanks is given to the St. Clair
business citizens and employees of the St. Clair Police Department
for their contributions. Credit was given to the St. Clair
Police Reserve for the "hazardous" task of transporting the
"Jail Birds." As depicted by the photographs below, fun was
had by all for this very important and successful fund raising
for the MDA.. Over $15,000.00 was raised
for local patients and their families. 50 "Jail Birds" were
arrested.
Lieutenant Flemming wasn't able to be present
so his father-in-law served in his place. Sergeant Brinker was
on standby for backup or relief. Commander Boden also
participated in transport as seen the photos below. (Photographs provided by the St. Clair Police
Reserve)
Murphy Inn - Lock-up
Headquarters and detention center where the "Jail Birds" were taken
and detained.

Commander Ronald F. Boden
collected and returned the "bailed-out Birds."
The Ford Expedition
driven by Commander Boden is owned and provided by Mr. Steve Grates,
General Manager of Bill MacDonald Ford, St. Clair, MI.
Commander Boden wishes to extend a "special thanks" to Mr. Grates
for providing his family vehicle to support the effort of the MDA
"Lock Up" and for contributing in a personal way to the success of the
day.
One of the "Jail Birds," Don
Chutas from Cargill Salt. Don was one of the top bail raisers
($1,600).
The "interrogation" room at
the Murphy Inn. MDA Director Michelle Hall on left interrogates one
of the fifty "Jail Birds" who gave a total of $15,000.00
to the MDA "Lock-Up" event.
Upon running out of "Jail
Birds" the MDA Director Michelle Hall on right and
Administrative Assistant Kim Creamer were locked up.

MDA Director Michelle Hall
became unruly, and Commander Boden was forced to book her and
detain her for pending "trial date."
