Web Author's Note:  Thank you, Deputy Sawyer for letting us know of your current status and of Sergeant Kyriakopoulos' retirement.  Congratulations, Sergeant on your retirement.  Following is a partial quote from the same  E-mail received from Deputy Jeff Sawyer:  "What is the status of our membership?  I believe we had our first case where a Deputy needed your insurance and it helped him out a ton as he fought with insurance company of the citizen that crashed into him.  Just wanted to make sure we are in good standing."

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Reserve Division consists of 22 Officers with an allowed strength of 30 Officers.  Hamilton County is the northern adjoining county of Indianapolis, Indiana.  The Reserve Division is set up with a Division Commander, Lieutenant, Sergeants, Squad Leaders, and Deputies.  All Reserve Deputies are road-qualified and are required to work 24 hours a month towards Patrol duties, and they often volunteer more hours towards road and special details.  Their powers are no different than full-time Deputies.

Hamilton County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies go through a rigorous training program of 96 classroom hours and 680 hours of Field Training.  Continuous training is also an important aspect of the Division, training monthly on various aspects of Law Enforcement, identity, theft, defensive tactics, legal review. S.T.O.P.S., domestic violence, etc.  They exceed the annual minimum state mandatory training hours and are involved in all aspects of the Department.  There are 4 state-certified Field Training Officers, 5 members of the Special Response Team, 1 member of the Chaplains Office, and 1 member of Dispatch.

The community is the fastest growing community in the state of Indiana and is one of the 20 fastest growing, wealthiest, and most educated counties in the country.  With the leadership of Sheriff Carter and Reserve brass Officers, the Division is currently going through a process of expansion by adding two more Units to the Division, Sheriff's Community Services Volunteers, and to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Auxiliary Reserve Unit.  Hoping to add 15-30 additional personnel to help assist in the service of the community and Department, the proposal of these two Units is going through the approval process.  It is hoped that these two Units will be up and going by the end of the year.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Reserve Deputies are well rounded and come from all walks of life.  We enjoy serving our community and Department.  Please visit our web site at www.co.hamilton.in.us/services.asp?id=2287&entity=2316 .
