 HISTORY

The Colorado Mounted Rangers(TM) have a long history of service to Colorado.  Originally formed in 1859 as the Jefferson Rangers to keep peace in the Jefferson Territory, they were renamed the Colorado Rangers in 1861 upon the creation of the Colorado Territory by President James Buchanan in 1861.  They have been called upon by the state's Governors to protect the state during the mining strikes, the Prohibition period and by the Denver D.A.'s office to counter organized crime and corruption.

In 1861, they were re-organized as the Colorado Rangers and served as the only state law enforcement agency until they were disbanded in 1923.  On February 21, 1941, Governor Teller Ammons re-organized the Colorado Mounted Rangers(TM) as a volunteer group with a single troop in Bailey; and a Certificate of Incorporation was issued.  There are currently 6 troops in the state including the newest addition, K Troop serving the Denver Metro Area.
