NRLO was formed in 1983, to expressly serve the interest and needs of Reserve/Auxiliary/Support Law Enforcement Officers nation-wide.  NRLO's Member web site provides Volunteer Law Enforcement "information" which cannot be found anywhere else which can be compared and shared between Departments; the most extensive and inexpensive on duty insurance coverage available; and "deserved recognition" through publishing and through NRLO's awards program for outstanding service to Law Enforcement.  NRLO is always seeking new Membership benefits and services for it's Members.

Cost of MembershipNRLO Membership is $45 per Member per Year.  Group rates are available (large Units do not have to be 100% in order to qualify for the discount).  Contact NRLO for details on the group discount. Membership includes NRLO's Official Membership Card showing Member number and renewal date; insurance certificate, and NRLO Services.  See Insurance Benefits and Services and How to Apply

NRLO's Membership On-Duty Insurance Benefits include:

    • $50,000.00 should a Member's injury result in paralysis and/or coma
    • $30,000.00 excess Accident Medical and Dental
    • $20,000.00 Accidental Death

COVERED ACTIVITIES:  The policy covers each Insured Person during the policy period while he or she is:

  • on duty on the direction of the Policyholder or his/her own Law Enforcement Department; or
  • participating in fund-raising drives; training classes, tests, drills or trials of a piece of apparatus connected directly with the duties; or
  • traveling with a group in connection with the activities; or
  • traveling directly to or from the activities and his or her home or lodging place.

HARTFORD LIFE AND ACCIDENT INSURANCE COMPANY *

NRLO Membership of $45 per member per year includes "in-line-of-duty" insurance coverages which are available to those individuals who are associated with a bonifide Law Enforcement Department  (paid or unpaid). NRLO has recently added new benefits, plus NRLO is seeking additional benefits.  (Discount rates are available for groups - large groups do not have to be a 100% participating Unit in order to qualifyContact NRLO for more information on the group discount.

On-Duty Members are Covered While Traveling "Directly" to and from Their Assignments (to and from his or her home or lodging place).  Membership provides Paralysis and Coma Benefit of $50,000.00 if a Member's injury results in paralysis or coma within 180 days after the date of the accident.  Excess Accident Medical and Dental Insurance (up to $30,000.00 per incident) is paid if you are injured while performing Law Enforcement functions. Excess Medical includes required medical or surgical treatment, including hospitalization, X-ray examinations, the service of a licensed Doctor or of nurses, and use of ambulatory services. Dental work is excluded on natural teeth when the work is not necessary for the repair or relief of injury (damage to existing bridges or other artificial dental restorations is excluded).  If the Member has no other medical coverage, Excess Accident Medical becomes primary accident medical.  Accidental Death Payment of $20,000.00 is paid if a Member is killed in-the-line-of-duty. Accidental Dismemberment Benefit is paid up to $20,000.00. Seat Belt Benefit is included under AD&D if a Member's injury results in a covered loss under the Accidental Death and Dismemberment Benefit equal to 10% of the Principal Sum while a passenger riding in or the operator of an automobile.  Medical Disability coverage ($200.00 weekly up to 13 weeks) is paid to NRLO Members who realize a loss of income due to an in-line-of-duty injury. Medical Disability pays in addition to any other coverages held including Worker's Compensation.

 SERVICES

Awards and Citations which recognize "Valor" and other outstanding community achievements such as "Outstanding Service," "Length of Service," etc.  When a Unit joins NRLO, a Membership certificate is issued; and a new certificate is awarded for each year of Membership thereafter.  These certificates are attractive and are suitable for framing.  (NRLO is also an Official Certifying Organization for "The Presidents Volunteer Service Award.")  

Membership includes organizational assistance to aid city and county Law Enforcement agencies in upgrading existing Reserve Divisions and provides assistance to Departments wishing to organize a new Reserve Unit.  Get the latest information through published articles in the "Reserve Law OFFICER".

NRLO receives the latest information submitted by Members and by other sources in the shortest time possible.  The site is updated regularly.  NRLO's site provides a vehicle for networking information between thousands of Reserve/Auxiliary Officers across the nation.  It keeps Members abreast of new training techniques, seminars, and innovative operation and administration procedures.  It provides pertinent news and information originating from fellow Reserve Members in other states.  Visit NRLO's eTraining pages which provides informational articles and "Basic Training for Reserve Law Officers" (Hosted by NRLO Director of Training, Captain Chuck Mantkus) and much more. Visit the "Guest Editors/Trainers" page to see "who's who" in Reserve Law Enforcement.   Post messages on NRLO's SOS Bulletin Board and Message Center.

 HOW TO APPLY

Roster or Applications:  If you are submitting application for a group and wish to expedite getting your volunteers enrolled in NRLO membership and coverage, you may submit a roster (name, title, home phone, address, and name of beneficiary) with payment.  Membership benefits and services are in effect as soon as the roster and/or applications and payment are received.  NRLO tries to keep it as simple as possible for all groups.  Membership forms can be copied from this web site, or forms can be mailed to you.  Just let NRLO know which submission is preferable to you.
