Law Enforcement Training "Computer-Based"
The
Backup has recently released its newest version of
"Patrol Response to Active
Shooters." The recent tragic events in Salt Lake
City once again emphasizes the vital need for training and
preparation on the part of every Officer for "active shooter
situations." Whether on duty or off, you never know when
you may be faced with similar circumstances.
The Backup Training Corporation wants to
be sure that you have immediate access to this critical training,
even if your Department does not have the schedule or funding to
provide it right now.
This is a one-hour,
computer-based course taught by Al Baker. Al is a twenty-five
year veteran of the NYPD and the inventor of the Baker
Batshield. This new, one-hour training course expands on
the previous version, introducing topics such as necessary
equipment, deployment formations, and evacuation techniques that
will keep you and your team safe.
The
Backup is now providing this computer-based training
course, and 40+ other titles, free of charge to any sworn Officer in
the U.S. The only cost to the Officer is a $3 per course fee
to cover shipping and handling. Courses are POST
approved or certified in forty states. Funding for
this program is provided by several colleges throughout the United
States. Qualifying Officers include: Any sworn Law
Enforcement Officer (including Reserves) and military and
corrections personnel who act in a law enforcement
capacity.

The New York
State Association of Auxiliary Police

The
NYSAAP represents members of Auxiliary, Special and Reserve
Departments in New York State. The primary purpose and objective of the Association
is to promote and improve the benefits of its members, promote the
understanding and cooperation between members of the Association and
the professional Law Enforcement agencies with whom they interact,
and promote the value of Volunteer Law Enforcement programs to the
communities they serve.
The NYSAAP sets a standard to allow Auxiliary Units
to be organized in municipalities, many of which may not have such
organizations as of yet, and assist in legislation that may need to
be set or amended. The NYSAAP helps Departments share ideas
for Recruitment & Training on an AOL Group. President
Glenn Kearney said, "This
is the best place to get info on what's happening. The State
is very big, so we don't get to meet as often as we would
like. So the AOL group has become the virtual meeting
room. We also keep members informed of any bills in Albany
that may have an impact on
them."
The NYSAAP
welcomes new members from any uniformed, Volunteer Police Department
in New York State. Click here for more information NYSAAP. Tell them NRLO sent

This
is a patent pending "seat-belt"
device.
By Alan
Beaty Oklahoma State Trooper
NRLO Director of
Training, Captain Chuck Mantkus, said of this seatbelt
device: "The
'Trooper Trap' seat belt
alarm system is absolutely outstanding. This should have been
on Law Enforcement Units years ago. I know of many, many cases
where it would have saved the lives of Officers and others.
Congratulations are due; and I hope that the
device becomes mandatory on all Law Enforcement vehicles.
This device should be promoted
world-wide." ****************************************************************************************************************** "The unique features of Trooper Trap allow the Officer to
monitor the prisoner without physically watching him/her. The
advantages of Trooper
Trap are Officer safety, being able to watch your prisoner
without backup, and simple easy operation."
-
"I am a Trooper in
Oklahoma who had my Patrol Unit stolen by a prisoner that slipped
out of the handcuffs, the seatbelt, and sped off with my Unit only
to crash it and attempt to escape of foot; but I caught
her."
-
"I truly think this device
will make the difference in life and death to more than one
Officer. I want each and every Officer to go home after each
shift, and that is the biggest push behind this
device."
I invented a
device called Trooper
Trap to prevent Patrol Unit theft from
happening again. I noticed a prisoner transport topic talked
about on your nrlo.net pages and thought other Officers
might like to know about this patent pending device.
Briefly stated,
Trooper Trap is
designed to assist in simple and standard Officer safety
tactics. When a subject is arrested, the Officer handcuffs and
searches the prisoner. Then the prisoner is placed in the
Patrol Unit with or without a cage, and a switch is turned on
"arming" Trooper
Trap. The Officer can talk to another
subject or search a vehicle without constantly monitoring the
prisoner. If a prisoner attempts to escape, the seatbelt must
be removed, and an external alarm will sound to alert the Officer
that the prisoner had unfastened the seatbelt. The Officer can
then return to the Patrol Unit and re-secure the prisoner.
The unique features of
Trooper Trap
allow the Officer to monitor the prisoner without physically
watching him/her. The advantages of Trooper Trap are Officer safety,
being able to watch your prisoner without backup, and simple easy
operation.
There are news video
clips for your review on the Trooper Trap web
site. Necessary download links are provided on the site in
order for you to view these clips (RealPlayer). It's a free
download from the trooper.com site.
